Sandy V. S. Weisenburger died in Minneapolis from ALS Tuesday, November 4, 2003.

She was born Virtue Victoria Sanderson on October 27, 1930, to Luman and Jenny Sanderson in New Rockford, ND. Sandy is survived by brother-in-law Erwin Weisenburger and five nieces and nephews.

Sandy grew up on a farm near New Rockford where she learned to love animals -- especially cats -- and the meaning of hard work. She earned a degree in Business Administration from Metro State University.

She retired from General Mills in 1995 after 35 years working at different jobs in several departments. In 1997, she returned to General Mills to direct the retiree volunteer program. She was a tireless volunteer most of her life, serving those less fortunate through E.S.A. International, where she held the office of State President and positions on their International Council. She also served on the advisory committee of the Minnesota Office of Citizenship and Volunteer Services for 10 years.

Sandy was Senate District Chairwoman for the Republican Party in the 1980s. She also worked on campaigns for Congressmen Bill Frenzel and Jim Ramstad and State Representative Peggy Leppik.

She loved to travel, touching five continents. Her trips included several to Europe, Southeast Asia, China, Egypt, Turkey, Brazil, and, most recently, Machu Picchu.

Arrangements: Washburn-Mc Reavy Funeral Home. Memorial service: 11:00 a.m. Saturday, November 8, 2003 at the Robbinsdale United Church of Christ, 4200 Lake Road, Robbinsdale, MN.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the ALS Association, Minnesota Humane Society, or charity of your choice.

She really, really, really hated "Virtue". Of course, this caused no end of confusion because my father, Lawrence, was also called Sandy. When she visited, she had to put up with being called Virtue or confusion resulted.

I hope the end was peaceful for her and for you. I think the obituary is lovely. Very straightforward, yet it conveys the person.

Thanks. It was peaceful for her. I was driving like mad down 100 trying to get to Jones-Harrison...

Sorry to hear that, Larry.

I thought about her yesterday when I was delivering meds to J-H. Hope it (for lack of a better term) went smoothly.

Thanks. She did not choke, which was her main fear. And there was a friend in the room.

I'm sorry that I didn't see this journal entry right away. It seems that if I don't check in every hour I miss to many to catch up with.

Our condolences, Larry. It sounds like she was quite a lady.
