Meanwhile, out here in Southern California, September is pretty much Greek Festival Time. I don't think there are any, nowadays, where the food is cooked by the Church Basement Ladies (I was fortunate to find a few such 50+ years ago), but the brought-in-from-restaurants food is generally delicious. (And you might be interested in the Icons of a few pairs of young, male, warrior Saints who are always depicted together. Just sayin', but Orthodox Theology is Rather Strange. Apparently any Iconographicos can paint anyone, and if people think the icon has virtuous properties, the subject is accepted as a Saint.) Personally, I find myself more interested in spankopita, dolmas, & lamb shanks or kabobs. And the local -- Saint Nectarios' -- church, though relatively new, is gaining enough mural Icons to be quite spectacular (though I'll need to do a bit of Reviewing of the Greek Alphabet variations before the event).
