Nope. My house is just over half that (1225 sq. feet), and the last time it was assessed by a bank - in June of 2002 - it was $190,000. So, that's nearly twice the house for 50% more money - it's in a cheap neighborhood!

Put it two blocks west of Hennepin instead of two blocks east of Lyndale, and I'd bet it would list for $500,000.

Irene was looking at 1500 sq foot townhomes in third-tier suburbs a couple of weeks ago - they started at $275,000 and went up from there!

Seriously considering the Finger Lakes region of upper New York State.
I saw a house that consisted of three 3 bedroom apartments for about $60,000.00.
Even a job that paid no more then ten bucks an hour would make that affordable!

Assessed market value is based very much on the last selling price inflated by the increases in the tax rates over the interval since the last sale. The new owner will get a slight boost in the assessed market value (and the tax rate).

This house looks out over beautiful Whittier Park. If it was close to water (other than where the ice rink ustta be), it would be $500,000.

The house next door to mine (same size) sold for $119,000 or less several years ago. It was a fixer-upper.
