I'm not actually anti-gun, although I'm pretty thoroughly anti-carry, and I'm very much anti-conceal and carry. I'm opposed to concealed weapons under all except exceptional circumstances. I'm from a farm in North Dakota. We always had tons of guns in the house. Big guns. Rifles and shotguns. But you never, ever walked into a house with them uninvited; you left them in the car, the pickup, or the truck. You certainly did not take them into the living room unless you were invited. It just isn't polite. I think armaments should either be proudly displayed or done without. Only sneaks, outlaws and other lowlife carry their guns concealed. That's just me, and I'm clearly in love with almost all phallic objects.

I do think Minnesota's new gun law reeks of right-wing indifference to the common good, and considering their usual elevation of property rights over everything, amazing. I'm also amazed at the level of paranoia running rampant. And, being Scandinavian, this casual indifference to the common good is very disconcerting.

I think both the old and new minnesota law makes no distinction between open and concealed carry, but I think the rationale seems to be that concealed is better these days because people are unused to seeing legally armed citizens, and therefore there might be some needless alamr and calls to 911 for awhile as people got used to it?

I think that guns reduce the safety of the person carrying them more than they increase it, but that's a minor difference and (in my opinion) in the noise.

My biggest problem with increasing the number of guns in society is that it's the wrong solution. Or, more to the fact, it solves the effects of a serious social problem rather than the cause.

It's kind of like invading countries like Iraq rather than tackling the socio-economic problems that cause terrorism in the first place. Certainly removing Hussein from power has benefited American security in the short run, but it is probably worse for American security in the long run because it exacorbates the underlying problems.

I guess it's the impoliteness of people assuming that they can wear their guns wherever they are. The casual disregard for where they are and the people around them. Wait! They're all Republicans, I forgot.

I'd rather they all got hauled off to the hoosegow, locked up, the key lost, and their guns sold to support arts in the school. Then the same action performed on any person who bought the guns.

I don't see the usual suspects assuming that they can wear guns wherever they are. I see them insisting they can wear guns wherever they like.

I guess I'm waiting for the day one of them straps on their handgun and tries to get into one of the courtrooms that have banned guns in an attempt to inform the judge(s) that they are in violation of the law...
