Or maybe I just like being vindicated in my refusal to chop down all the dead plants in October. I had figured that they provided wintering-over spots for beneficial insects and that the stalks would capture snow and help protect the crowns of the plants from damage (not exactly a problem THIS year). Who knew I was being aesthetic too?
