I caught a short bit of an interview with Louise Fletcher about her playing Nurse Mildred Ratched in One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest on MPR last night where she explained that she played the character as if she was the only one grounded in reality, only doing things to people for their own good. If you have not seen the performance, it is stunning. IMDB sez "Named fifth worst movie villain, by the American Film Institute..." By trying to do good, she makes death the preferred alternative for a character or two. "First do no harm" wuz not ever in her training book or oath.
