Yesterday, I had three parties between 3 and whenever, and a birthday dinner with a friend. I also have a friend in from outta town, and I wanna catch Riddick at some point. So, I went to buy beans at the Farmer's Market, came home and cooled down for too long. Around two, I started to make the bean salad I was going to take to two of the parties. (Yes, I'm lazy.)

I tipped and boiled the beans, which, of course, took far longer than I thought. After boiling, I cooled the beans in running cold water, and stuck 'em in the fridge.

Meanwhile, I chopped an onion and a couple o' cloves o' garlic and stuck 'em in a glass bowl. To the bowl I added the zest and juice of four or five lemons and a bit o' olive oil.

I also added a good squirt of rooster sauce (sriracha).

From the back yard, a harvested Italian parsley and lemon thyme. I chopped the parsley and pulled the leaves off the thyme, and threw it in with the onions.

I chopped the beans, green, wax, and red (scarlet?) beans and Roma beans into kinda salad sized pieces and threw them in the stock pot I'd cooked 'em in.

I contemplated a trip to the grocery store to buy black beans, but I found two cans o' beans with jalapeños in the larder. In they went.

I threw in the onions, lemon juice dressing, added salt, black pepper, moar rooster sauce, and moar olive oil as the clock slid past three-thirty.

I split the beans between two plastic bags and shoved 'em into the freezer and headed for the shower. Afterwards, I said, "Shit, I forgot the dill!"

I chopped a handful of dill and split it between the plastic bags, pummeling them to mix it in, and threw them back in the freezer.

I don't hate to brag, but that bean salad rocked. The lemon, salt, and rooster sauce tickled the tongue. The beans (excepting the canned) tasted like they'd been in the field yesterday. The triple lemon, lemon juice, lemon zest, and lemon thyme, tasted clean and fresh. The rooster sauce kicked up a few flames around the edge of the taste, but stayed just a hint of fire in the background, like the memory of the stove in the warming house when you're ice skating in the winter.

I ended up leaving both bags at the Gaylaxicon gaming party, because if I made any of the other parties, it was going to be after dinner and too late for food. After the dinner at Heidi's, I did make it to one other birthday party, which I stayed at until it closed down.
