On Saturday morning, the Concourse wireless would not connect to my phone. It would connect to the laptop, but it would not supply the Intertubewebthingies. Now, not being the dimmest bulb in the hotel, and aware of the fact that having approximately 1,000 geeks wandering around with one or two wireless devices each might be, err, stretching the capabilities of the hotel's wireless routers, I called the number for help on connecting to the Internet only to discover that I need to improve my geek patter.
"I'm having trouble connecting to the internet. Do you think you might be out of addresses or something? There's an awful lot of us in the hotel with one or two internet devices each." (Being a summer blond as a child, I'm perfectly fine playing one as an adult.)
"Oh no, it cannot possibly be us; it has to be you. Can you check this on your laptop?" as he gives me instructions for how to check things on a different version of Windoz.
"Can you check that on your laptop? You do know how to open a command prompt, don't you?" And then we burble sweet, sweet ip addresses at each other.
"Can you reboot your laptop?" he finally comes up with as a delaying tactic, as he runs off to quickly reboot the router...
"Well, that node had been up for 255 days, so I restarted it."
Oh yes, just fuck me now, thank you.
And behold, I once again had Intertubewebthingies on my laptop and my phone no longer refused to connect to the Concourse Wireless.
