From the house of a friend whose partner died today. Will written quite some time ago names an attorney as Personal Representative who seems to no longer be at the firm, which used to have his name on it, but no longer does. Only copies of the will -- unsigned. No power of attorney. Somewhere a living will, but no copy at hand and a bit late anyway, I'd say for both. (I think the power of attorney evaporates when the person dies and the personal representative becomes the person in the hot seat.) Prepaid cremation or something with a funeral home, but no idea which one. Condo in the dead partner's name. Separate bank accounts. Small life insurance policy. Other named a the fiduciary beneficiary if they make it 30 days after the other's death. I'm just not sure it should be a hurdle that high. Will cuts out the family, not that there's much of an estate anyway. I mean it's not like 83 is old or anything...
I guess it's all ok, after all, we're all immortal at least until we die. Wait, let me think about that...
