CONvergence

I commuted, and stayed too late except for Sunday, when I left around five.

I did almost no programming. We ran a room party Friday and Saturday night. I remain a lousy sales person.

I caught a man on Thursday night/Friday morning. He fell down the NE stairs by the pool. I only caught him about two steps from the bottom, so I don't think I did much good. I doubt that he felt much pain until the next day. He claimed he was fine, although the convention radio people hustled him off. I'll admit that I was only sober in comparison.

I did get the London in 2014 flyers to the convention on Friday, although I forgot them on Thursday.

I did take Thursday and Friday off. Parking was not fun, but not as harrowing as to make it impossible. My fallback fallback was to park at work and take a shuttle from the Embassy Suites. Not, mind you, that I knew there was a shuttle from the Embassy Suites, but that I thought there might be.

I took pictures. The survivors are at: Link

I never took an elevator. One was out in the main tower for most of the weekend. Lines were long.

I had one, err, unpleasant exchange with a volunteer at the art show. I picked up $50 in ones for party tips on Friday after wandering around on Thursday without tipping. When I went to the art show, after checking my camera, the volunteer looked at the wallet bulge in the pocket and accused me of trying to smuggle a camera into the show. Smuggle a camera? No, I said, failing to point out that 99% of the people had phones with cameras so wtf? It did give me a good whinge for the rest of the convention.

I was amazed that the expensive, stone covered desks were covered with what looked like cheap white plastic. At least I hear it's stone, and it breaks. It looked like lots of money spent on small flash if it is stone.

The party pack masking tape and the hotel's new paint were not friends. I spoke to mrsmodewmrsmodew on The Bridge about it.

We exceeded the memberships I thought we'd get. You can register here: Gaylaxicon 2012

The games, Jeopardy and Family Feud went quite well. I was amazed at the number of people who liked filling out the Family Feud questionnaire. People also liked Don's homemade ice cream and the 1919 root beer, although it was not the only kinda bheer they wuz looking for. The room party was quite, err, warm on Friday when the air temperature in Beautiful Bloomington peaked around 102 degrees fondly Fahrenheit. A fan or two amongst the fans would have been quite nice. Even after the rain, the hotel still felt like a sauna. The next time they offer 15 pounds of dry ice for the ice cream, stick to 10. I did not scoop, but I hear it was work.

I saw Sharyn November across a hallway, but I missed all of her panels and did not get a chance to speak to her. I'd hoped to meet Paul Cornell, too.

mizzlaurajeanmizzlaurajean volunteered at the party on Saturday night, and we wandered among the parities, even up to the fourth floor.

I did pre-register for next year.
