They're rebooting Spider-Man. They're remaking Total Recall. Sometimes, when you're in the middle of summer movie craziness, it can seem like every movie is based on an already-existing movie. But that's not really true — there are actually tons of genre movies in development that are new concepts, at least as far as the movies go. Some of them have already finished filming, while others will never get made. Moar

The crisis in eurozone has affected all countries in Europe. It reflects the lack of budgetary discipline and belief in the solvency of certain European states. But, as the Nordic countries show, the crisis is decidedly not due to what many critics outside Europe claim — strong unions, high tax levels and strong regulation. Moar

About a year ago, I wrote about the best way to set up wireless audio — how to get the music that lives on your computer onto speakers scattered throughout your home.

My conclusion back then — that a combination of iTunes, Apple AirPort Expresses and some low- to medium-price powered speakers was the best solution — remains a pretty good one. But in the intervening months new products have arrived (indeed, Google announced on Wednesday the Nexus Q, its own home-entertainment module), and my position has, as the politicians say, evolved.

Not to make matters complicated, but there are now three ways to accomplish the same wireless audio goal. Hopefully, the one that is right for you will be readily apparent. Here’s how they break down. Moar

When I finished the series, having become a rabid fan myself, and tried to pass on that rabid fannishness to some friends, it occurred to me what a tough sell Avatar is. Moar

The tomato is the vegetable (or fruit, if you must) that we love to hate. We know how good it can be and how bad it usually is. And everybody just wants to know: How did it get that way?

Today, scientists revealed a small but intriguing chapter in that story: a genetic mutation that seemed like a real improvement in the tomato's quality, but which actually undermined its taste.

Before we get to the mutation, though, let's start with the old tomatoes — the varieties that people grew a century or more ago.
