In the days of my youth, it seemed that the world was a bright and shiny place. The Warren Court ran around and opened doors, much to the chagrin of the people that appointed him. Except for an irritating land war in Asia, except for an irritating couple of land wars in Asia, and a Russian satellite launch, much was good. At some point, a charismatic young Catholic president came in to replace a doddering old war horse that everybody kinda looked up to because he saved Europe or something back in the stone age. And still the Warren Court ran around and opened doors, much to the chagrin of the people that appointed him. Money was pumped into education, men were strapped to rockets, and American technology and education ruled the world, even if our military couldn't quite subdue it. Then, the second of these land wars in Asia started getting bigger, and bigger, and bigger, and at some point, Warren died. It's about then that the rot set in, on account of because every body agreed that they wanted to appoint no more Supreme Court Justices that caused that much chagrin in the people that appoint them. In fact, they wanted to close all those doors, undo that education, undo that technology, besides which, it took too much money, and teach those damned peasants in Asia what for. Ever since, we've been trying to teach the world what for and close those doors. It's not only the youth that has faded, it's the bright.
