The furnace blower decided to go on vacation today. When I woke up, the house was around 60 and not getting any warmer. Throwing the circuit breaker and twiddling the thermostat didn't make any difference, so I called Standard Heating, who wanted a $200 fee for emergency repairs. I left a message for them to call me when they opened, started a fire, turned on the heaters on the third floor, and the oil radiator in my office and hunkered down to wait for seven. The heat came on five hundred dollars ago after the furnace guy that showed up first replaced the blower control module. (After paying that much for a part, I'm now convinced my furnace must surely be certified for space travel.) Phase two occurs this afternoon when I'm having a tooth ground down for a crown. By tonight, I shall certainly feel penniless, and it ain't but January 4 -- ittsa long ways to tax time.
