I put a drive in and ended up disconnecting and rearranging several cables so I could install Windows 7 on a clean install. It seemed to work. I didn't get the cam going, but it found the scanner and the label printer that XP has ignored for lo these many months. Of course, it set the digital monitor up higher than either it or the card would drive it. I had to unscrew the cord and just work off the analog until I got it up and running. I did not install software other than different browsers and winzip. It looks like it will work. Oops, just remembered that the motherboard's sound wasn't working. Would have to dig up the drivers for that.
I'd love to upgrade the motherboard and put 64 bit windows on, but after my Baby^TM car's 60,000 mile checkup, that forecast is cloudy. Of course, I bought the 32 bit version thinking I could always put it on the one computer that's not working right now. And when I tried, with some hard drive difficulty, I was shocked that it was 64 bit compatible. Go figure. I think something's fritzed on that computer anyway, so I guess the 32 bit stays on this system.
