I ran out to see The Bubble last night at the Lagoon. It certainly passed the nekkid man test with flying colors (including genuine simulated sex -- male/female and male/male with more of the later). It filled too many scenes with music, but touched sore, sore places and offered no easy answers.

The central story is an affair between a Palestinian and a Jew boi/man just back from duty at a checkpoint. Complications ensue.

There's a shared apartment in Tel Aviv, two gay guys and a straight girl -- who takes bad relationship advice from her gay roommates. There's furry stomachs and bare nipples, a bit of crotch munching, and male ass, humping under blankets. A marriage, getting caught kissing, coming out, politics, a bomb or two, some gunfire -- it ends not well for the gay males, but the next generation seems assured (on the Jewish side). The end goes off in search of the numinous, the end-all for star-crossed lovers in hopeless affairs since long before Romeo and Juliet.

I believe it got bounced out of the Oscar race as an Israeli film because there's too many languages in it: Hebrew, Arabic, and English. (Not enough Hebrew to qualify.) Put little faith in the "Partially subtitled" moniker if you're hooked on English.
