Whether a script is set in the Little Belt Mountains of Montana or Little Italy, location shooting is a complex, challenging and risky business. In recognition of a number of acclaimed independent films that were recently shot in Minnesota, North Carolina, New York City and elsewhere, location shooting will be the focus of the 2006 IFP Minnesota Independent Producers Conference. Through panel discussions and in-depth case studies of the guest producers' films, you'll learn everything from incentives, scouting, legal fees, permits and insurance to prepping a production for a location and much more!
Confirmed guests include James Bigham (SWEET LAND), Christine Kunewa Walker (FACTOTUM; AMERICAN SPLENDOR); Mike S. Ryan (JUNEBUG); Joel Viertel (CONVENTIONEERS, winner of the 2006 Independent Spirit Award's John Cassavetes Award for Best Feature Made for Under $500K); Lucinda Winter, Executive Director of the Minnesota Film & TV Board; SWEET LAND Production Manager Clint Allen; and Location Scout/Manager Stuart Skrien. Filmmakers William Kruse and Kris Barberg will discuss Minnesota-produced shorts location shooting.

A special screening of CONVENTIONEERS will be held at the Minneapolis/St. Paul International Film Festival with producer Joel Viertel present on Friday evening, April 21, 7pm at Oak Street Cinema, 309 Oak Street SE, Minneapolis. The film will be a featured case study at the conference the following day.
NEW FEARLESS FILMMAKERS EVENT THIS WEEKEND
"Fearless Filmmakers", the highly anticipated monthly film event /fundraiser has set April 8th for its April screening. Event organizers Project Spotlight moved the date early in the month of April to accommodate the Minneapolis/St. Paul International Film Festival, which is happening at the end of April. By combining the buzz-worthy after-party and film screening into one location, this event will definitely be a party of the who's who among local film and music. The event kicks off with free food and pre-party at 7:00PM where you can hobnob with local directors and actors and the film screening of 5 films begins at 8:00PM. The after-party will feature music by Nothing Static and Solid Gold alongside DJ Greez, following a director Q & A. This event will sell-out as its one of the "A"-list events in Minnesota and so early arrival is recommended. Come support this highly creative media arts organization in their fundraising efforts.
