Jul. 24th, 2003 08:38 amAt the last MNSTF meeting and Dean and Laura's (where I left a bag with a sweatshirt and a copy of F&SF), Geri came in excited from a typography convention that she was attending. She mentioned a font, and passed around samples in chocolate. Today's NY Times has an article on the font. Article.
They also have an article on the software from the new Republican led effort to hijack the election process (even more than they did during the last presidential election). Article.
Last but not least, a quality site where you can still find feather shuttlecocks. While growing up in the wilds of Dakota, we had to give up on badminton when the supply of feathered shuttlecocks ran out and all we could find were the cheap plastic variety. On the wild North Dakota prairie, the windspeed is usually strong enough to power windmills, and sometimes enough to move houses and small farms. The only time when the wind does not blow is for 30 seconds when it switches from west to east, and once in a while just after sunset in the twilight period before the mosquitoes arrive and suck the blood out of everything. The plastic shuttlecocks vanish the first time you hit one up in the air with the wind blowing. The feather shuttlecocks just keep on going the way they were going even through a tornado. Besides, the feather shuttlecocks give a much more satisfying thwack when you actually hit one with a racket, and, if the racket's old, as they go through the strings. Anyway, you can now buy feathered shuttlecocks again -- the only problem, they ain't cheap. Article.
Then again, there's dude ranches, and them wot look after 'em. Article.
