Generally speaking, yes.

The duty-free limits depend partly on how long you've been out of the country. But even for shorter trips (like a weekend in Winnipeg) I've bought at the duty-free shop. You do have to know prices, they aren't 100.00% reliably cheap.

At airports I don't know how they handle the new security rules on liquids, but I'm completely confident they do somehow; I'm sure the people in the duty-free shop would know, since their jobs depend on it. Or is there some other reason getting it to MSP would be an issue that I'm overlooking?

Yes. I did so on Monday. But I wouldn't buy anything at the duty-free shop at the Montreal airport based on price, unless you know the usual price -- their prices seemed high to me.

On the other hand, I bought a bottle of Sortilege (maple liqueur with whisky) because you can't get it locally.

You have to check liquids.

Actually, we didn't - we bought booze in the Montreal airport and brought it on the plane with us to Chicago, and from there onto the plane to Minneapolis. No problems at all.

I think the limit is a liter.

Beth is right. You only have to check liquids if you clear customs in the U.S. and then go on to another domestic flight.

Right. You didn't have to clear security in Chicago, because you went through U.S. customs in Montreal.

We wanted to pick up a bottle but failed to make it back to a liquor store after discovering how wonderful it is.

I got mine
