Your pictures give a much better look at the place than the listing did, and I see its charms.
What's with what looks like a major crack/offset in the foundation? There were two pictures, separated by several others, so I don't know if it's one crack or two. Does it look bad in person? How about the mechanicals? Anything scary there?
While daedala doesn't drive, I would be concerned about resale value given the location (very busy major road) and lack of off-street parking. The lack of a bathroom on the bedroom level is likely to be another major drawback in terms of resale.
It's not a crack -- it's the split between the basement and the porch foundation.
The bathroom on the main floor is a myth. One for thin people in the basement (shower, sink & toilet) and one on the bedroom level (toilet, tub with shower & sink).
Mechanicals have been boxed in rather tightly in the basement. Very difficult to repair. It's in an L. Furnace in one leg and water heater in the other. Fireplace is scary with some kinda coal? gas? burner. Not sure if it's gas or what. Was a coal fire at some time. Looked kinda scary. Rusty iron whatever around it.
The kitchen is a descent-sized closet with plywood crap for cabinets. There's a second IKEA kitchen in the basement with washer and dryer where the fridge and stove ustta be. There'd be room for a baby dishwasher on the main floor if you replaced the cabinet.
The floors were patched when somebody replaced the octopus/hot air furnace. They've been subsequently patched a few times.
Sunroom floor still has the rain slant although it's been turned to wood.
House has network cables running in it.
Excellent location.
Don't know if there's copper to the street, but the basement and main floor have copper. Second floor bathroom is iron. Didn't try to see what the water pressure was like. Mixing copper and iron not great.
The basement has been apartmentized. Small bedroom, livingroom, kitchen and bathroom. Not done by the world's most skillful craftsmen, but finished and not buttugly. There's a run of IKEA cabinets between the washer and dryer.
The bedrooms upstairs are long and narrow. One has a closet at each end. One has only one closet. They're all the width of the room with the roof coming in. California closets ain't gonna work.
Attic is half finished and used for storage. Wouldn't be my dream place to get big coolers out of with the drop-down attic stairs.
Hennepin is three blocks from dead-ending at the cemetery. It's not a busy street at night there, and it's about four blocks from the lake. Short walk to the heart of Uptown and bus central. Lunds, Rainbow, Lakewood, Uptown & Lagoon theaters. Ittsa a great location for not owning a car. With no garage or off-street parking, it better be.
It's not a bad location for someone that doesn't drive. There's an apartment across from my house. It's pretty common even in almost Uptown. It's a young people area, but close to Lunds, Rainbow and buses.
House is more "I can live with this" than "O! My Ghod!" The lot size is about the same as the lot here -- 1/3 of a full one. Four blocks to Calhoun, three blocks to the heart o' Uptown, and three blocks to Lakewood.
It's a house in search of a very few people. If it could be purchased cheaply and the taxes paid, It's not an impossible house, but it's not a dream house either.
