Seedless Kumquat Takes Root
By FLORENCE FABRICANT
Published: February 10, 2009
The Nagami kumquat is the most common variety, sweet of skin, tart of flesh and full of seeds. But now a seedless variety, which has been available in Japan for some time, is being grown in Panama for the American market. The kumquats are refreshingly tart to nibble — skin and all — perhaps with some cheese. More

Mmm, I love kumquats. Never seen a seedless one though!

Eight dollars per pound? I'll settle for occasionally snitching a few ordinary ones from an accessible plant (this is Southern California, after all) & following the tradition of discarding the interior portion. Part of the Charm of Kumquats is the fact that one eats the portion that, on most fruits (especially citrus), is not eaten, and throws away the part that's usually eaten. (In some obscure way, this associates it in my mind with artichokes, whose major Virtue may be that after you've eaten them you have more left than when you started.)

Si!

The kumquats don't grow very well around here. I think it's something to do with the winter weather...
