It sounds as if I left Chicago at a good time. Apparently they got dumped on after I left. Expressways were flooding, and a subway or two went under. We did sit for a bit as the plane taxied down the runway, and there were big thunderstorms between there and Minneapolis.

I drove back from Deerfield after class, around 4:30 into Chicago. Rush hour. Stop and go. Ran into Boystown to try and find something for Thong, gas for the car, and some food for me. Insanely, I was sort of sweating checking in at the airport. Minneapolis was a circus when I left on Sunday, so I assumed a worst case scenario. Wandered around Boystown, getting my directional sense totally confused as usual, in and out of a few stores, then I started cruising restaurants. Clark seems much better for them, but I kept heading the wrong way to get to Clark. Finally grabbed one, ate, filled up the car -- well, I attempted -- and headed out to Midway.

After I headed out west (my east) to find 94/90, I noticed the car still was a quarter tank down. Damn. I was convinced it would be higher at the airport. Wrong. It was a dime a gallon cheaper. Of course, it took two minutes to check the car, there were three people in front of me at the ATA ticket line (and they all went to one agent), I found out the plane was half an hour later than I'd planned, and there 5 empty security scanners when I walked down the stairs to the gates. Not that I really needed another hour in Boystown on a Wednesday night, but I could have tried Yoshi's, which is supposed to be very good.

The plane did start doing the roller coaster thing right about when they were doing the beverage service, and a stewardess got on the PA to say you could have anything that wasn't hot. Lots of nice lightening going on between clouds.
