We must move forward, not backward, upward not forward, and always twirling, twirling, twirling towards freedom.

Damn it... what's that from? I know I've heard it before, probably in a movie, but I can't place it.

It's probably just as well I was watching the extras on the Lost S3 box set. My eyes would probably have rolled right out of my head...

Hm. Come to think of it, it may also be used by someone at TrekBBS... which would explain why it's familiar but I can't put my finger on it.

Was he holding hands with Cheney while he spoke, exchanging long protein strings?

I thought it was a better use of my time to record The Sarah Connor Chronicles while we ate dinner and then watch the tape while the SotU was on. Even though it was the pilot. Which I've already seen. Twice. Followed by an episode of Angel on DVD that I've seen about a jillion times. Oh, hell, crocheting an afghan that would cover my entire house, for no particular reason, would be a better use of my time...

Si!

The line is from "Citizen Kang," possibly the greatest "Treehouse of Horror" episode ever. After replacing both Clinton and Dole, the aliens Kang and Kodos are revealed at a campaign stop, but they continue to laugh at the audience, because they have to vote for one of them anyway -- it's a two-party system!

Voice in the crowd: I'm gonna vote for one of those third-party candidates!
Kodos: That's right, go ahead! Throw your vote away! Ha ha!
(Ross Perot angrily punches his fist through a styrofoam boater.)

At the end of the episode, all of humanity is enslaved, and Homer utters a line I'd like to have on a bumper sticker:

"Don't blame me, I voted for Kodos!"

Aha. Thank you! (While I've watched The Simpsons, it's not must-see viewing for me, and so I may or may not have seen the episode...)
