Thong woke up around 5:00 this morning. The cable box was doing strange things, so the time wasn't glaring as usual out of it. He leaves at 11:39 for Seattle, Seattle to Tokyo, Tokyo to Singapore, and Singapore to Ho Chi Minh City, leaving on Tuesday at 11:39 a.m. and arriving on Thursday at 4:00 p.m. The only bad connection is Singapore to Ho Chi Minh City, he arrives at 12:30 a.m. and leaves at 3:00 p.m. He's traveling with his older brother, Thuy Nguyen, the same one he always used to throw out of the house when his baby brother (Thi Dinh) lived here with us. His sister, the arch enemy, is leaving next week. Apparently they're going to stay at opposite corners of his parent's farm.

He was trying to find a book to take with and read, but he's not overly impressed with my science fiction. I tried to get him to take Ursula K. LeGuin's Earthsea books, but he wasn't interested.

Last time he went there (last year) he traveled with a Vietnamese passport; this time, he's traveling with an American passport, and he's staying longer. He's already taken the two big suitcases over to his brother's, but he was repacking the carry-on at least once this morning. He's been packing and repacking them for the last three months.
