Happy Big Fowl Day!

For some reason some of us south o' the 49th, err, parallel, overcooks a huge, tasteless, overbred bird, puts it onna table and calls it a holiday. Some of us even get a day or two offa work! (At least in Mexico, they know to put it in chocolate to give it some flavor. Too bad they don't celebrate Big Fowl Day...)

So, my your Big Fowl not taste like sawdust and be juicy, more like comets than moon rocks.

living alone, and having enough money to Splurge once in a while, has its advantages. My Big Fowl this year is a roasted duck purchased at the not-too-distant Hong Kong Market yesterday. With a batch of Mrs. Cubbison's corn-bread stuffing made with scallions, celery, & carrots from my Garden Plot and three kinds of mushrooms. Plus gravy made with stock from those parts of the duck that really aren't worth excavating meat from, and maybe soup if there's enough stock for that (though perhaps the soup will appear tomorrow, because I no longer eat very much in one day). I expect to have polished it off before Sunday, when I'll pop over to Gardena for my usual Dec. 7th gorge on Japanese food, & then go on to some hotel in the Beach Cities in preparation for Geri Sullivan's arrival on Monday -- we expect to be bopping-around in that area for a few days before & after SMOFcon..

That duck...

Would not last long in this house. Or the soup.

SMOFcon sounds like fun this year! Wish I was gonna be there. Have fun.
