Well, before a second coat of shellac actually...









Some 100 year old writing emerged from the side of the stairs when the many layers of paint came off. It's still visible through the thick coat of shellac, but not clear. I guess running a power orbital sander with coarse sandpaper over it wasn't a great conservation step...
